The week of the 21st of September was Fresher's Week at Trinity College Dublin, which meant the committee was mobilized to organize the stand and try spread the love of orienteering to (new) students. Every day two of us were at the stand giving out the fancy flyers that Fiona designed. Most students had never heard of orienteering before or had some near traumatic youth experiences, but with sufficient enthusiasm and persuasion most people get wildly excited or curious enough to sign up.
An enormous well done to everyone on the committee, this year 139 people signed up, an increase of 70% compared to last year! The group of members this year is a diverse group of undergraduates, postgraduates, PhD's and lecturers of all ages and nationalities. We're looking forward to getting going this year!
Our first training will be on the 8th of October on campus. Details will follow over email on Sundays (Sunday = email day) and via Facebook. We hope to see you all there!
